While not the prettiest bar on the island, Horn's was probably our favorite, due in large part to the staff. Everyone we interacted with -- Brian, Ariel, Mary, and Ernie -- were very talkative and friendly. We actually found ourselves hanging out with a few of them at a different bar on another night. Fun times! Definitely get to know your bar tender if you come here. If you take care of them, they will take care of you. Seriously. Best staff on the island.

Food was ok. The pork quesadilla had too much meat and not enough cheese and vegetables. The margaritas were good as well. This place was pretty touristy.

I downloaded this app on my phone just so I could give this place a bad review. The artichoke crab dip is... Cream cheese. The fajita chicken salad as nothing that makes it worthy of the word fajita, it's just chicken lettuce tomato and cheese! The fajita chicken wrap barely had any chicken in it, it tasted like a vegetarian wrap. The food took way too long for such basic, basic fare, and the tricolor chips served with most of our dishes were stale, or soggy with grease

Slightly less than average food at above-average prices. I had the chicken fingers. They didn't bring me the sauce that I requested, and then had the audacity to apply a mandatory 19% tip. That leads us to evaluate the next bad thing about this establishment: The tipping policy. I have no problem giving a 20% tip for good service, but when a restaurant expects a tip greater than 15% for no better reason than you have a credit card, I get frustrated. I've seen this a lot in big tourist destinations like Miami, FL so it's not totally unprecedented. Horn's advertises a mandatory 19% tip if you have a party of 6 or more, but in my experience, they will apply the 19% regardless of whether or not your party has 6 people in it. This is both false advertising, and greedy. The only redeeming point about this place is that it's on Mackinac island; where prices are always high compared to other places... Moreover, if you've planned your Mackinac island vacation properly, you're probably ravenously hungry by the time lunchtime comes around. In a nutrient-deprived state like that, bar-food looks like gourmet, and the fact that their dishing up $15 bar-food doesn't really matter.

Friendly staff but... bad "bar style" food. We had hoped for a better meal but after we went inside and sat down we kinda felt that this was a GREAT watering hole, but not a good place to eat. To sum up our opinion, this is a good bar and not a good restaurant.

I was on a short visit to Mackinac Island with my two teenage children, and after we completed our carriage tour of the island and the tour of the fort, we walked into downtown and decided to stop at Horn's for lunch. It was crowded, but only took about 5 minutes to get us seated. They have a nice variety on the menu, from burgers to mexican, plus a variety of other sandwiches, so it had something for everyone. Service wasn't quick but it wasn't terribly slow either, and besides, you are on vacation - what's the hurry? Would eat there again if we were ever back on the island.

Visited here also before I did the island Bar Crawl (tee shirts can be purchased at souvenir shop). The food was good, and inexpensive. Typical bar food/sandwhichess. I got the chicken salad, but asked for it to be in a sandwich, they were very accommodating. When I came back later at night for bar crawl, it was a very fun atmosphere, DJ was spinning to a very diverse crowd.

I really liked this place. We went here for drinks after dining elsewhere. I was most pleased to see they had a band performing cover tunes, they sounded really good! Some were even dancing. We sat at the bar and had excellent service, very attentive to our needs.. even gave us free munchies - awesome kettle chips ;) Because we stayed overnight on the island, we were able to experience the locals after hours.. Wow!! kind of strange, but so interesting and fun!! There's just a happy go lucky kind of atmosphere here..

Let's start with Bell's Oberon. Yippee. I ordered the Horn's Club salad. I was happy with the size of the salad, but not with the processed American and Swiss cheese sliced on top. The bacon may have broke a tooth if I ate it all. The beer was cold, the service was excellent and the food came quickly.

Fun times at Horn's weather it is filled with Sailors after the Mac Races or Tourists that stay on the Island. Most nights... or at least those that I have been they have had Live Bands Playing.

Loved the waitress for her cheerfulness. Went in for some drinks and light food. Food was good and we got to watch Bulls make it to the Eastern Conference Finals after 12 years. Good memories!!!

Good food at good prices. They were able to seat our group of 10 without a problem on a Thursday night.

This is a run-of-the-mill restaurant and bar frequented by plenty of tourists, but what made it stand out was our great bartender who was honest about some things we asked about on the menu, and steered us in different directions based on his knowledge of the food - even running back to the kitchen to ask an opinion of a cook if we should order the ribs. He said no so we skipped those. He did edge us toward the Americanized Mexican side of the menu but coming from Colorado we knew that wasn't what we wanted. Though I was a little tempted by a burrito because it came on a jalapeno cilantro tortilla which sounded up my alley. We ordered some standard bar fare, fried mozzarella sticks with chicken tenders and sweet potato fries, but they were a step above what I've been served in many bars. The cheese was very thinly battered, still with a great crunch but just lighter tasting. They came out hot and 100% melted, which they often don't. The tenders were okay but the sweet potato fries were awesome. We sampled a bunch of Michigan beers (the largest selection we found on the island), again asking for guidance from our bartender (since we were sitting at the bar). They even had Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy which is pretty hard to find. I dug his opinions but most of all that he didn't treat us like tourists. There was a live musician near the front door in the corner later in the evening and he was pretty good too. Not cheap, not expensive and GREAT people watching especially if you wait until the last ferries have left the island.

My mom and I visited the island in September this year while on vacation. We decided to have lunch on the island and had not eaten at horns before but liked what we saw on the menu so we decided to go in. The wait staff was pleasant and prompt and the food was excellent. I had a veggie wrap that was amazing. Best veggie sandwich I have had anywhere, and my mother had a Reuben which she raved about. This was one of our favorite meals the whole trip and months later we are still talking about it. Definitely worth a visit. A little pricey, but on the island that seemed to be about the norm. Wasn't anymore costly than surrounding restaurants. I would go back again.

The food was amazing! I originally went there thinking I would get the turkey burger with avacado, but the crab and spinach Quesada caught my eye and I'm so glad I changed my mind. Lots of flavor that went great with guacamole

Food great - Poor Service My husband and I ate here over the weekend. The food was fantastic! It was all Mexican style, but they even had veggie burritos for the lightweights like me. The only drawback was the waitstaff! Geeze, talk about not being able to multitask or find a personality. The first waitress was from KY...forget it not worth explaining the details. I just hate when they ask you if everything is o.k. and before you can answer they are gone.

  • Connie G.

The Food all looked good and tasted good too....the prices were high, but that is normal for the Island.....I was happy with the service, but this is a very kid magnet dining establishment, lots of noise..

I was vacationing in Northern Michigan, visiting family. My mother and I decided to catch a ferry over to the Island and have lunch. I have been to this place a couple times before and the food has always been very good. My mother ordered the breakfast burrito, which she said was very good. Had scrambled eggs, onions, tomatoes and salsa. Came with an order of chips and salsa as well. I ordered the cheese nachos, which were very good. I only got the half order which was huge. The salsa had lots of fresh cilantro in it, was very good spicy, which I enjoy. Always a pretty busy place though, but we did not have to wait for a table and the service was very good.

Service was really good and friendly...food was just ok. If I were to come back to the island I would go somewhere else.

Good nachos bbq pork sandwich. We've been coming here for years. Got some great photos of my daughter eating a popscicle for the first time. Great bar. Cold beer. Nachos are good but were a little greasy last time. With all the selections in town this place is always a stop for us. Often there is some great entertainment.

I have eaten here many times. Admittedly, I usually order the same thing - the white bean chili. I have never been disappointed.

  • Darin V.

This place was abysmal! Service was very poor. We waited 15 min for a seat, then waited another 30 min for a veggie burger and two salads!! During this time, a family next to us got up and left without paying after the kitchen sent their food out three times with mistakes! How do you get such basic food wrong!? Our salads were all white head lettuce and the veggie burger looked like they just popped it out of a microwave package. This place looks fun to have a beer, but don't bother eating the food.

Stopped in for a drink on a recommendation from a friend. The staff was great, I asked to see various bottles from behind the bar that I had never tried before and they let me take a look to help me decide which I wanted to try. The place was busy but not overwhelming. A great atmosphere.

Let me sum up this restaurant in 4 simple words: a complete freaking joke. Not the worst service on the island, the worst service I've ever had in my life. The service was so bad it cost my fiancee a Banana Republic coat. You owe me Horn's. p.s. What's with the Mexican food? Absolute disaster, amigo.

If you're out for the evening on Mackinac Island and in the mood to listen to a cover band, then head over to Horn's.

This was a pleasant surprise on the island. They had a nice selection of beer and the food I ate was great. I ordered a chicken fajita wrap and shared that with my soulmate who traded me half her turkey reuben. I enjoyed the service, our waitress was a real person with an honest personality. She made a grossed out face when telling us that the soup of the day was clam chowder. Cool. I like when people are real with me. After enjoying a couple two hearted ales we got on our tandem bicycle feeling really satisfied with our lunch choice!

One of the few nightlife places on the island - they served the summering students well with great music, drinks, debauchery...

This bar has great food, specifically the Mexican fair. We have returned time and again. The fish tacos are my favorite

Nothing about this place screams "Mexican food". But that's exactly what you get. Well, it's Americanized Mexican food, but you get the idea. We sat at the bar to eat our dinner on a recent evening while visiting Mackinac Island. The bartenders/servers were all very nice and fairly attentive. They state on their menu that their beans are vegetarian. Score. I ordered some spinach and cheese enchiladas and my wife got a bean burrito. My enchiladas were just ok, required a lot of salt, but I was hungry and there are not many vegetarian options on this tiny island. I tasted my wife's burrito, and it was just a tad below average. But with some salt and some hot sauce, it got the job done. The complementary chips and salsa were pretty tasty. There are several bars/restaurants on Main Street that look very similar from the outside. This is one of them. But they had the Tigers on TV, room at the bar so we didn't need to wait for a table, and vegetarian options. That's all I needed at the time and overall it was a decent experience.

We decided to come here because there was no wait vs other restaurants in town..we were not impressed.. Ordered French dip sandwich and three angus beef sliders.. 1. French dip sandwich were hot/fresh..but it is just a regular french dip sandwich..nothing special about this sandwich. 2. The beef sliders..the buns were barely presentable.. (looked wrinkled and mishandled).the sliders came with fries..the fries are good fresh and crispy Great service thou..our server was efficient/polite/attentive.. The price for each dish is reasonable..

Eileen was great! She spoke great "kid language" with my crazy three year old boy and my water glass was never empty (which is a must for me)! Thanks for great service and food!

Had the soft taco with beans and rice. It was to die for! The place was full and the server was busy but very good.

My wife and I stopped here for a few drinks after riding around the island. It was mid-day, so it wasn't crowded at all. It has a cozy, old-school atmosphere. I was afraid to order a standard bottle of Budweiser, because I thought it would have a ridiculous touristy price. But, I was actually relieved to see my beer was only $4 a bottle. Our waitress seemed like an airhead, and despite the relative emptiness of the place, it took 15 minutes for a bottle of beer to be delivered. My wife wanted a glass of pineapple juice, but when she delivered it, the glass was about two ounces short of filling the glass since it was the last of the juice. The waitress poured immense apologies, and my wife was like "um, it's okay, really." She pretty much begged my wife to select another juice for a complimentary cup. I was getting somewhat hungry for a snack, but their appetizers were pricey: $7 for 5 cheese sticks--so, I passed on that. I had two beers; my wife had a pineapple juice (and complimentary cranberry juice), and it cost $10.50. A few hours later, I wanted another drink and discovered Doud Market down the street, where they have a common stock of alcohol. I decided to brown-bag my drinks for the rest of the evening. Horn's was a nice place, nothing special or really noteworthy.

Decent Mexican food for a resort location. The beer is what you'd expect and they carry some good michigan beers. They have live music some days.

Food iffy, beer decent. Waitress very good. We were a party of six. All tried different types of food and same thoughts around the table. So is a good place for apps and drinks!

My wife and I ate here for dinner. Good atmosphere and service. We had the Chili Con Queso for an appetizer which is really good. She had the Skewered Shrimp which is light and delicious and I had the Fajita Burrito with steak which is also delicious. A little pricey but that is to be expected on an island.

The staff is great, and there is music every night in the season. Late night snacks and pub subs are a good option after hours

    (5)
  • Chelsea P.

Average food. Although they got my order incorrect and didn't ask my husband if he wanted the chicken or beef nachos so they had to remake them. The service was ok but nothing special. Server didn't check on us much either and they weren't busy.

Good service. Burrito and nachos were decent. Like everywhere on the island, over-priced for the quality.

There is no better pub on Mackinac Island. A couple others are on par, but certainly no better. Every time we visited Mac for a week or so - for the Chicago to Mackinac Sailing Race, or to enjoy their lovely Autumns, we came to Horn's almost every day. Our favorite is their White Chicken Chili. I've never known of anyone we've dined with here who wasn't happy with their food. Besides my/our favorite white chili, I love the specialty brews available on tap. Keep in mind it's a pub, serving PUB FOOD. If you want linen service and cuisine, go elsewhere (Island House has a great view and nice menu with moderate pricing compared to Grand Hotel, Mission Point, The Inn at Stonecliffe, or Windermere - though we don't recommend Windermere for dining, and will never return). We prefer to grab a booth at Horn's, providing one is available, and just enjoy a step back into a simpler time for a spell. During the Mac Race, everyplace on the Island that's any good is packed to the gills (those that aren't good are busy due to the overflow). We always found Horn's as friendly and accommodating as possible in any case. They always made us feel welcome and attended to.

Went in with another couple for food and drinks. This is after my wife and I were there the previous night... This time they said our friends stroller couldn't come in (next to a closed section and a restaurant with only 2 tables that were sat) although their twin girls were sleeping. After inquiring why, we were told it couldn't be next to the table because it blocked a fire exit... When they wanted them to park it right by the entrance, partly blocking the ONLY exit... After asking again, she said, "well honestly, the owner said no." I requested the owner come and explain... To Which he promptly went back into the kitchen and continued avoiding me for 20 minutes. As an operator of 8 restaurants, don't have someone insult my intelligence. If you're a couple without kids, enjoy. Food is ok. But if you have a little one take your money elsewhere, unless you want to be treated like a second class citizen. To the owner, next time be an adult and handle your guests concerns personally rather than hiding behind your servers.

Italian sausage ginger ale The sausage was the sweet style but they put honey mustard on it. This added some spice and more sweetness. Very interesting and tasty. Had to put away water bottle we were carrying when we entered. Luckily we had a backpack Interesting that water is given in 6 oz glasses I think that is fine and might save water My wife had the seafood quesadilla. Very good cheese, avocado and tomato. The service was very attentive. Two lunches, a water and a pop was$22.00. So for the type of meal I am giving them top rating.

Food and service here is pretty good. I ordered salad and my husband ordered steak fajita. The food was very tasty. The ambience is good. They have live music on weekends but I did not get a chance to watch the performance. I will definitely go back whenever I am on the island.

    (4)
  • Jordan N.

Service, food, environment... all absolutely terrible. Our server, Erin, was cold and seemed completely disinterested in her job. My boyfriend ordered a burger, which is typically served with chips. Completely fine... until we heard the server at the next table over offer an upgrade to fries. The message from servers should be consistent. He would have much rather had fries had he known it was an option. Food was just okay, way overpriced for what you get. I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken salad and it was a bunch of lettuce and about four strips of chicken. Plenty of better places to eat on the island.

    (1)
  • Lynette L.

Service is spotty. Our server was good but greeter, seater and others seem like they don't want to be here. Took a while to get our food. Kitchen definitely seems to be bottleneck, as for food, my shrimp salad was quite disappointing considering it was $15 - 4 shrimp and 4 meager Dulce's if avocado. I'm giving 3 instead of 2 stars though because their "traditional" fare if burgers and fries seemed to be decent based on the opinion if others in my group.

  • Kim D.

ordered the nachos with pulled pork.....omg amazing! super cold beer too. Also had the tacos...ground beef is great. fun atmosphere....Live music. love this place. It's a must do on our agenda every year.

Great Mexican food. This is our go to every time we come to the island. Get the chips with the pulled pork.

We had a ton of fun listening to live music, drinking, and people watching at Horn's. The night we were there the place turned into a dance club with the late-thirties to early-fifties crowd swarming the dance floor. It was fun to watch and more fun to join. The cougars and MILFs were def out in full force but our server said the crowd is different every night. The place itself is long and narrow and it seems like the dancefloor is a little small and crowded. The hubs complained about the lack of "light" beers but I appreciated the local (Michigan & Canadian) beer selection.

    (3)
  • B M.

Fun atmosphere. Live music. Good service. Mediocre food. My wife and I were both served nuked previously frozen spinach in our meals and I believe I was served nuked previously frozen chicken in my burrito. Never in my life have I frequented a Restaraunt that served frozen spinach. The chips and salsa were the only redeeming food my wife and I ate there. The two stars are for the atmosphere, music, and good service.

Best spot on the island for night life! Live music is outstanding. If T-Bag is playing definitely stick around.

    (5)
  • R. L.

Walked in and walked out. The place is cold with very uncomfortable seating and atmosphere. One positive was that the place was empty while other restaurants were packed... then again, that fact probably stems from a negative.

    (1)
  • Rich B.

Food is decent, service is spotty. My highlight is sitting at the bar with a beer and looking at all the detail on the woodwork behind the bar. Great place to hide while the wife hits the tourist shops looking for items that will make me roll my eyes and gain an hour of the silent treatment from her.

    (4)
  • Prashant C.

Food was great, quality and taste was nice and quantity was more than sufficient . Ambiance was like many other place , nothing too great, nothing to complain about.. drinks was a tad expensive but than thats expected at a tourist place and that too on an Island so no complains.. I am happy with the place and would revisit next time I stay on Mackinac. Cheers!

  • L T.

I'm a picky eater and a vegetarian. I've NEVER had bar food like this place. My friend had the fish tacos and RAVED about them.I had the veggie burritos with black beans rather than eggplant. Holy cow wow! Amazing! Service was awesome too and the prices were great for a tourist destination.

    (5)
  • Ali M.

The live music really made this place special- without it it's a pretty standard bar. They had a good selection of Michigan beers that we enjoyed listening to said live music. Quite a few bachelor parties came in while we were there so I think it's a popular spot on the island for groups.

    (4)
  • Agnes L.

This is the most packed bar on Mackinac Island. It's a small space already, but it gets even smaller with the crowd it draws because the live music is usually loud and the band's stage is near the windows facing Main Street. Granted, most bars on the island are filled with rich middle-aged white tourists and wedding parties that were let out early. This one actually had all those usuals, plus a few bar crawl groups of 20-somethings. Therefore, someone like me and my friends did not feel completely out of place. (As we did experience at a few other establishments that the island likes to market on its souvenir bar crawl shirts found all over downtown shops.) We were able to make this the last stop of our fun night out on the town. We heard a decently energized cover band who granted limited requests (sorry, no Top 40) but still liked to interact with the crowd. Go here if interested in joining the rest of Mackinac Island's tourist population almost in its entirety.

  • Kristen C.

My fiance and I had a great time at this place this year and last year. We've only sat at the bar, and the bar tenders are very nice and made several good drink recommendations. The downside though is the bathrooms. I went in to wash my hands and the place was disgusting. I think you can tell a lot about a place by their attention to the bathroom, so I'm glad I didn't try any food. Ick.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
